In the latest edition of its weekly newsletterPower On, American journalist Mark Gurman once again discusses the case of the mixed reality headset that Apple is preparing in secret. Its principle would therefore combine VR & AR, with both immersion in virtual environments and an overlay on reality to stay connected with it.
A value proposition which is obviously reminiscent of that of Meta, Facebook's new name since the firm chose to redefine its long-term objective with a view to creating a true three-dimensional social network. Nothing surprising just here, sincewe also mentioned this connection when we discovered a recent patent filed by Apple with the USPTO, an American organization responsible for this type of issue.
A daunting price?
As Gurman points out, the price of thiseyewearApple should not, however, suit all budgets since it could easily exceed $2,000. For comparison, the iMac with a twenty-seven-inch diagonal costing $1,999 in the United States is priced at €2,249 here. This is the version with Retina 5K display, tenth generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD.
This pricing policy, which consists of making the French pay more for the sake of taxes, should not spare a possible VR headset from Cupertino. This is where Facebook could stand out, with a more affordable positioning, probablycompensated by serious monetization of personal datathe very principle of which continues to be controversial.
Health too
The other sector where a major round is already expected between the two giants of the Sun Belt is that of connected watches.Images of an Apple Watch-likesigned Meta have indeed been recently shared, tending to prove that the value proposition of the device could overshadow the best-selling model on the market thanks to the integration of a front camera. Finally, Gurman believes that Mark Zuckerberg's firm is also interested in monitoring activity data, which today seems to be the spearhead of communication campaigns around the Watch, particularly with Fitness+.
