Patents: Apple Glass glasses stronger than Yuka?

It's no longer a secret: Apple is currently developing a pair ofsmart glasses. However, no official details have leaked about them, which suggests that the project is far from finished. The most recent estimates therefore count on an exitwhose date would exceed 2022, even though nothing is certain about a real differentiation between this device and a more imposing AR headset.

The documents filed with the USPTO, on the other hand, reliably source the ambitions of the apple brand. This organization, whose surname literally means United States Patent and Trademark Office, is responsible for protecting the intellectual property of companies in the United States. And as its name suggests, it is also responsible forregister new patents.

Detect food composition

Among the recent files accepted by the American institution is a document detailing how a mount couldspot potential expired foods. In the same way, the glasses would be able to tell if a fruit is ripe or if it is better to wait a little longer before tasting it. The technology enabling this feat, for its part, uses infrared waves in particular.

With this, the gadget could also judge thename of caloriesor the fat content of a product. There are already applications offering this type of functionality, including French Yuka. This is increasingly used by consumers to avoid toxic additives in supermarkets. Others go even further, such asMedico which details down to the components of the different medications available in pharmacies.

Deep learning

Like the TrueDepth camera on iPhones, the solution presented here by Apple also uses thereconnaissance d’images. Thanks to a database and information shared by users, the software would then improve day by day. We can bet that the photos in question will be anonymized, as Cupertino likes to point out in its marketing campaigns in favor of confidentiality.

Finally, note that the patent does not stop there and also mentions the detection of other objects such asanimals, plants, paint, buildings, furniture or electronics. From there to imagining augmented reality assistance so that Glovo delivery drivers prepare their in-store order more quickly, there is only one step.
