Apple is not
notthe
only tech companyin the crosshairs of the European Commission.
The latest defendant, Google, for a question of abuse of position
dominantwith Android on the smartphone market. Several leaders
charges were retained byMargrethe Vestager,
European Commissioner for Competition. And the fine that the giant would have to pay
de Mountain Viewcould reach 7 billion
euros:
On the one hand, the commission's investigation is already closed, and unless Google
does not organize a sufficiently convincing defense to reduce the fine,
the lattercould amount to 10% of turnover
produced by the mobile section of the Alphabet subsidiary.
On the other hand, the commission would also like the incriminated firm
correct the situation in the future, and therefore measures in this direction
could be imposed.
Concerning the 3 points of offenses, there is first of all the fact that Google
requires manufacturers of mobiles running Android to sell their machines
withdifferent pre-installed home applications, as
Chrome or the Google search engine. If a manufacturer does not respect this,
impossible for its devices to have access to Google Play
Store.
Another point criticized, Android is supposed to be a systemopen
source, leaving the possibility for manufacturers to modify it or
to use any version. Which is not the case, since access
to the Google Play Store becomes impossible with an Android too modified by the
constructor.
Finally last accusation, Google has been seenpay operators
and builderswhich preinstalled the Google search engine
exclusively on their machines.
Next step, Google's response to these accusations. Even if the
case seems strong, Google has shown in the pastalways be ready
to defend yourself well, particularly on these sensitive subjects of abuse of
dominant position
To be continued.
