Google Chrome, ten times more demanding than Safari on macOS…

According to a new study published by the creator ofFleet, Morten Just, the Google Chrome browser is much more demanding than its competitor Safari. Indeed, with only two tabs open, Alphabet's software already consumestwo gigabytes of RAM where Apple's sticks to… Eighty! This is also confirmed with a single site, Twitter, which uses ten times more RAM on Chrome than on Safari.

This is not new: we know that Google's program is regularly criticized for its excessive energy consumption, which also affects the processor. It is therefore not uncommon to find yourself with an Activity Monitor displaying a CPU at 800%. Users ofMacBook Proare used to it: I myself have to do without Chrome, which makes the computer heat up too much.

Up to 24 times more delicious

In another more extreme test, this time with 54 tabs open, Safari is satisfied with 12 MB per tab compared to 290 MB for Chrome. Which confirms the criticism of the latter, regularly singled out for hiscollection of personal datasometimes bordering on reasonable.

Apple also has the habit of displaying it during its keynotes: its Safari browser is specially optimized for Macs. Light and fast, it improves day by day with changes allowing it, for example, to display favicons orrotate extensions.
