For several days, the United States has been celebrating thirty years of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a law which has enabled enormous progress in the social inclusion of people with disabilities. On this occasion, Apple broadcasta series of fascinating testimonieswhere people with disabilities explain how the Apple brand's accessibility features have a positive impact on their daily lives.
VoiceOver, a popular feature
The siteTechcrunchalso decided to mark this anniversary by questioning large technology companies on this subject. Sarah Herrlinger, director of the Cupertino company's global accessibility policy, discussed the company's efforts in this area. She particularly placed a lot of emphasis on the iPhone which, according to her, is the most powerful assistance tool ever created:
The historical impact of the iPhone as a mainstream consumer product is well documented. What is less understood is how the iPhone and our other products have changed the lives of disabled communities. Over time, the iPhone has become the most powerful and popular assistive device of all time. It broke the mold of previous thinking because it showed that accessibility could in fact be seamlessly integrated into a device that everyone can use universally.
Among the popular creations, we find VoiceOver which reads the iPhone screen to allow visually impaired people to use iOS.

According to Sarah Herrlinger, much remains to be accomplished in terms of accessibility. Apple will therefore continue to work on the subject with its dedicated team which has already been in place since 1985.
