Apple Pay and instructions for use: compatibility, bank card, payment, etc.

Apple Pay is this contactless payment solution introduced by Apple in 2014. It allows you to quickly pay with your iPhone, iPad, watch, or even a Mac, with a tap of Touch ID or Face ID, or upon returning his personal code. Not all users can benefit from it; on the one hand, they must have a compatible Apple device, and on the other hand, they must have a bank card provided by a bank supporting the Apple solution.

But when these two conditions are met, what a pleasure to be able to pay for everything by simply taking the iPhone out of your pocket! Before that, however, a configuration procedure must be followed on the Wallet application side. But let's look at all the details regarding Apple Pay, to master this payment solution that is so practical and no less secure.

What hardware and banks support Apple Pay?

iPhone

Apple Pay is not compatible with all iPhone models. Therefore, only iPhones with the NFC chip support contactless payment technology, i.e. the following models:

  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6/6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s/6s Plus
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus
  • iPhone 8/8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS/XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro/11 Pro Max

With the Apple Watch, it becomes possible to use Apple Pay from the iPhone 5 (i.e. with 5c and 5s) in addition to the models seen above. However, in this case only in-store payments are possible.

For tablets, all tablets with Touch ID and Face ID are included, that is to say the following models: iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and 3, iPad mini 3, 4 and 5, and iPad 5 and 6. Unlike the watch, only online payments are possible with the iPad. No more in-store payments due to lack of an NFC chip.

Finally, Apple specifies that the latest version of iOS and watchOS are required to ensure the proper functioning of Apple Pay.

MacBook

All Macs equipped with Touch ID can take advantage of Apple Pay. Without Touch ID, you need a Mac released after 2011, associated with an iPhone or Apple Watch compatible with Apple Pay.
