Cyberattack at Apple: what are the risks for users?

Cyberattacks are common on the web and the larger a company is, the more it is logically of interest to criminals. Apple is no exception to the rule. If in its recent history attacks against the apple brand are rare, the latter has just suffered a memorable setback.

Indeed, hackers from the IntelBrocker group announce that they have hit the apple directly, stealing source code as well as three services used internally byTim Cook's teams. If Apple has not yet confirmed the news, the IntelBrocker group is known for this type of shocking action.

This team of elite criminals do not hesitate to attack large companies. Last April the group announced that it had hacked American government services. On their hunting list we also find multinationals like AMD, General Electric or the telephone operator AT&T.

An attack with limited risks

If this cyberattack necessarily appears to be very worrying for all people who use Apple devices around the world, there is not really anything to worry about. The three tools hacked by the IntelBroker group are services used internally andtherefore does not concern daily users.

Two of them are only authentication “portals” allowing employees of the Apple brand to connect to other, more important services. If access to these “portals” is already a great success for attackers, it does not do much, unless you have usernames and passwords from Apple employees, which does not seem to be the case for the moment.

The latest hacked internal software is called AppleMacroPlugin. Unknown to the general public, it could be of interest to other cybercriminals. By analyzing the source code of this software, they could find flaws in Apple's services to reach as many people as possible.
