Tim Cook reveals never-before-seen details about Apple Intelligence

During a recent interview with theWashington Postby Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook took the time to discuss the latest major new development in his company:Apple Intelligence. We learn in particular that for the CEO of the Apple firm, its new AI offers the possibility of significantly saving time. This is partly the case thanks to theSiri improvement, a proprietary voice assistant developed by the company for almost fifteen years now. The latter is in fact equipped with better conversational capabilities now, and finally understands much more complex queries than previously. The demonstration was made during the Worldwide Developer Conference, which ends on June 14, that is to say this Friday.

Tim Cook obviously did not fail to recall the promise ofconfidentialityof its AI, specifying that the information collected by it is done privately. Officially, the data would not be transmitted to third-party servers. But concerns about this have already been expressed in the specialized press. Indeed, we remember the bitter taste left in the past by unauthorized tapping of Siri. The voice assistant had activated the iPhone microphone to record our private conversations, without our consent. Third-party operators were then responsible for analyzing the conversations.

Where does the name “Apple Intelligence” ?

To go further, Tim Cook also answered questions from the journalist fromWashington Postrelating to the Apple Intelligence nomenclature. It turns out thatthe depositary would have chosen this term to avoid the now generic group of words “artificial intelligence… Quite simply.

Nothing really surprising here, given Apple's habits in this area. The company does not hesitate to speak of “tetraprism” where all manufacturers offer a “periscope” lens. We can also cite the case of “spatial” computing, a term chosen to evoke the augmented reality operating system of the Apple Vision Pro.

Tim Cook has new ideas for financing the media

As part of the interview with theWashington Post, Tim Cook did not hesitate to also discuss angry subjects. So, where some people protest when OpenAI analyzes newspaper articles to power its robot, Apple's number one suggests that a model ofcommercialisation sous licencecould be the ideal solution. From there to imagining that the content available on Apple News+ will one day be able to power the voice assistant Siri, there is only one step – which we will not take for the moment.

Among the other exchanges to remember from the interview, we will also note a certain admission of weakness – commendable – on the part of the American leader. Tim Cook believes that Apple Intelligence could indeed one day provide false information, even if everything seems to have been done to combat this bias. For him, it is therefore not at all a question of talking about an AI equipped with “one hundred percent” reliability. And that's understandable, since testing has proven that ChatGPT sometimes gets it wrong. The American tool is based on the same language model that powers Apple Intelligence.

When will Apple Intelligence be available?

It will be possible to test Apple Intelligence in beta version from thisautumn, but only in American English primarily. The final version should arrive on our mobiles and computers next year, but this remains to be confirmed.

The list of compatible smartphone models is quite thin, since only the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are affected for the moment. And on the tablet side, you will need an iPad Pro M1 or more recent or aiPad Air M1or more recent.
