Updated August 27, 2024: it's official, the Keynote will take place on September 9. This means that pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will launch on Friday, September 13 and will be released in stores on Friday, September 17.
If you follow tech news at all, and Apple more specifically, you will be aware that next month there will be a new Keynote. This September Apple Event is the most important event of the year for the Californian, given that it introduces thenew range of iPhones.
At the moment, we do not know the precise date of this conference.Like we did for iOS 18and the release of the final version, let's try in this article to determine what would be the most likely day for this new Apple Keynote back to school. To do this, we base ourselves on Apple's history in this area, on the latest rumors heard on this subject and on other elements, such as American holidays or the potential release date of iOS 18.
Apple's history
By taking a look in the rearview mirror, up to 8 years ago, we can already have a glimpse of Apple's habits when it comes to choosing the date of its back-to-school Keynote:
- iPhone 15: presented on September 12, 2023 (Tuesday), pre-orders on the 15th and release on the 22nd
- iPhone 14: presented on September 7, 2022 (Wednesday), pre-orders on the 9th and release on the 16th
- iPhone 13: presented on September 14, 2021 (Tuesday), pre-orders on the 17th and release on the 24th
- iPhone 12: presented on October 13, 2020 (Tuesday), pre-orders on the 16th and release on the 23rd
- iPhone 11: presented on September 10, 2019 (Tuesday), pre-orders on the 13th and released on the 20th
- iPhone XS: presented on September 12, 2018 (Wednesday), pre-orders on the 14th and release on the 21st
- iPhone 8: presented on September 12, 2017 (Tuesday), pre-orders on the 15th and release on the 22nd
- iPhone 7: presented on September 7, 2016 (Wednesday), pre-orders on the 9th and release on the 16th
Several interesting elements can be drawn from this history:
- Since 2016, the Keynote has always taken place between7 and 15 of September
- On the last 8 back-to-school Keynotes,3 took place on a Wednesday, 5 on a Tuesday
By observing the 2024 calendar, we can therefore a priori hypothesize that the iPhone 16 Keynote would take place onTuesday September 10, 2024.

Rumors about the next Keynote
- Majin Bu :at the start of the week, this Twitter account published what was presented as Apple's official press announcement for the Keynote. With the date indicated as September 10 at 10 a.m. California time. Except that it was later proven that it was afalse information

- Mark Gurman:the usually very serious journalist recently declared that beta 7 of iOS 18, available since last night,would be the last trial version of the new system. This means that the final version will be released very soon, possibly within a fortnight (including the RC beta normally published next week). Considering this, iOS 18 could release much earlier in September than its older iterations
Let's forget Majin Bu's clue and rely on what Mark Gurman indicates. In the previous paragraph, the September 10 hypothesis seemed statistically the most probable. But this would not correspond with what the Bloomberg journalist suggests for the release date of iOS 18. A Keynote on September 10 would mean an iPhone release on the 20th, and therefore availability of iOS 18 on September 16. With what Mark Gurman says, we should take a shorter view and bring forward the release of iOS 18 by 7 days. Taking this into account, the Keynote would then take placeTuesday September 3. It's early, but as you will see, other elements reinforce this hypothesis.
The American calendar
Apple generally waits for the second week of September to place its iPhone Keynote, because the first is marked by theLabor Day in the United States. It's American Labor Day, a public holiday. The Cupertino company therefore logically prefers to avoid presenting its iPhones the next day.
But this year is exceptional, across the Atlantic, since it sees our American friends vote for a new president. And on September 10, 2024, a highly anticipated televised debate will take place between the two candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. MTV has already rescheduled its Video Music Awards ceremony to Thursday 12, initially scheduled for Tuesday 10. Apple could follow the same strategy, therefore, avoiding September 10 and interference with the political debate. When is 9/11? This day marks the anniversary of the Twin Towers attack of September 11, 2021. Another day to dodge, therefore.
This then leads us torethink the September 3 hypothesisalready highlighted in the previous paragraph. Even if it does not seem impossible to us that the Keynote will be broadcast a week after the debate, on September 17. But in this case, the iPhone 16 would be released very late in the month, which would not necessarily be beneficial for the Apple brand.
iPhone 16 release date: our conclusion
All these elements taken together make us lean towardsthe date of Tuesday September 3, 2024 as the day of presentation of the iPhone 16. For now, it's still the same at Apple in September: it would be at 7:00 p.m. French time. Of course, there is no way we can be 100% sure at this point. Moreover, we could have confirmation on this subject as early as next week, since according to certain rumors in the corridors, the press invitations could be sent on August 29.
All these elements put together make us lean towards the date of Tuesday September 3, 2024 as the day of presentation of the iPhone 16
What announcements to expect?
Here too, we must for the moment make do with hypotheses and rumors. We know that traditionally, in September, Apple presents new iPhones and new Apple Watches. This year, we are therefore waitingtwo new iPhone 16 (16 and 16 Plus) and two new iPhone 16 Pro (Pro and Pro Max). On the menu, new finishes, higher prices, improved performance and photo improvements. The 16 Pro and Pro Max could also integrate anew Capture button. Otherwise, Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 would complete the cast.
