It's done. According to the magazineBloomberg, often among the best informed on this subject, Apple has endorsed its collaboration with OpenAI. The editor of ChatGPT, Sora and DALL-E would therefore be the Apple firm's first choice to improve the results offered by its voice assistant, Siri. From there to imagine thatSam Altmanis invited during the keynote of theWorldwide Developer Conferenceto come, there is only one step. Especially since journalist Mark Gurman assures that this new partnership will be revealed during WWDC. In addition, other leaders have already been invited to the stage of the Steve Jobs Theater during previous editions, such as James Cuda (Procreate).
Previously known for his involvement in the acceleratorY Combinator, Sam Altman is at the head of OpenAI and it is under his leadership that a fundraising of ten billion dollars with Microsoft made the headlines.
At the moment, neither OpenAI nor Apple have confirmed the news. However, it has been rumored for many weeks that negotiations were indeed underway between the two Californian companies. But they are not the only ones, since according to other rumors that we have already relayed, Google would also be in the loop. Mountain View now markets its own language model, accessible to the general public in the form of the Gemini app (previously called Bard).
How OpenAI could improve iOS 18
OpenAI is expected to allow iOS 18 to improve many of its features using artificial intelligence. Among these, we can notably cite the case of writing SMS with the appMessages. Here, the AI could finish our sentences for us, when we dictate them viaSiri. The voice assistant would also be the app that will probably benefit the most from OpenAI technologies, equipping itself with better conversational capabilities. These are sorely lacking today, often exceeded by the results offered by the competition, particularly at Google.
Many other new AI features are expected with iOS 18, like the one that would allow the softwareKeynoteto generate images on the fly to illustrate their presentations. Text could also be automatically created inPages, a word processing app that competes with Microsoft Word. We also think that the App Store could have a whole new section dedicated entirely to third-party platforms powered by AI. ChatGPT or Claude (Anthropic) could then be listed there, alongside the many services that have subscribed to the OpenAI API. This is billed based on the number of requests, but we do not know if this is the same agreement that was reached with Apple.
WWDC Agenda
iOS 18 is expected to be revealed during the Worldwide Developer Conference. The new features would be announced during the opening keynote of the event, which will be held onJune 10 at 7 p.m. (Paris time). Or next week. At the same time, Apple should reveal improvements to macOS 15, iPadOS 18 or even tvOS 18 and visionOS 2, the operating system for the Apple Vision Pro.
