We have already known this for several months: the definitive end of the Lightning socket, a plug still offered by Apple today on all its new iPhones, is fast approaching. L'European Unionhas therefore decided that the USB-C standard will be imposed on all mobile manufacturers by the end of 2024. Until now, however, it is impossible to know precisely what timetable the brands concerned were awaiting.
But a new directive just published by Parliament has just told us a little more on the subject. In fact, we discover the deadline forDecember 28, for the transition to the new mandatory socket format. Not everyone will be affected: smartphones with wireless charging only remain accepted by legislators.
Soon on our iPhones?
All this therefore raises a question: what is the future of charging on the iPhone range? Two options are available to us. The first is that of an iPhone 17 supposedly with USB-C socket, but which will force Apple to symbolically bend its back in the face of Europe's demands. And it is difficult to imagine how this could be the case giventhe company's history of distrust of the apple.
The other solution is therefore switching to an “all wireless” iPhone. The collection has already abandoned the 3.5mm jack several years ago and could soondo without physical buttons, so such a hypothesis should not be considered lightly. Moreover, several analysts have already mentioned this scenario on the horizon2024 or 2025.
You'll have to be faster!
In any case, if Apple does indeed choose to move to wireless charging only, there remains a serious effort to be made in terms of transfer speed. In fact, Cupertino mobiles do not power up quickly enough compared to the rest of the equivalent high-end items from the competition. A concern that also persists with the wired connectivity of the Lightning.
For example, to date it takes approximatelythirty minutes to recharge half the battery of an iPhone 14 Prooran iPhone 14 Pro Maxbut with a twenty watt power adapter. Accessory not supplied in the box.
