“Flo” test: new iPhone connected thermometer

Last February, we
had discoveredFlo
in this article
, a connected thermometer project which was making its debut
via the Kickstarter platform. A few months and asuccessful financing
later
, the product is ready and has been delivered to the first
buyers.

He is nowalso for sale on the site
from the manufacturer
, in several colors.

We took advantage of this outing to test it. Photos and details at
find in the following:

The thermometer, available in several colors, is delivered with a pouch
fabric carrying case and a button battery.

The installation of the latter is classic, a small rotation of the
cap and the assembly is ready for measurement. The materials used
exude quality and solidity at least in terms of feeling.

The sensor at the end of the Flo:

Use and measurement

The thermometer can be usedsans smartphone. Pour
start the measurement, simply press on the round part, which hides in
makes a button while positioning the end of the thermometer 1 cm from the
skin approximately, between the two eyes.

The Flo then displaysa color code at the level of the LED visible on
the top
. Reading is done almost instantly and displays green if
the temperature is correct, red otherwise.

We appreciate the fact of having a contactless measurement, this avoids waking up
a child who sleeps and reduces hygiene problems.

But Flo can also be usedin connected mode with the
smartphone
. To do this, an iPhone app must be installed, it

is available here on the App Store

The Bluetooth connection is made directly within the app. Once the
two connected, the temperature reading is done in the same way as
previously by pressing the button. But this timethe
temperature is displayed to the tenth of a degree
and evenstated
out loud
(in French via a setting).

Other options are planned, such as recording the history of
measurements, with photo if desired. It is also possible to create different
profiles for family members.

In terms of reliability of the measurements, the tests carried out seemed to show
measurements according to moments quite close to an ear thermometer, without
that this corresponds to perfect measurements in one case as in the other (a
slightly low at 36.4 for example). We did not have a perfectly calibrated device
to check the values, but what we can remember is that for

measurements, a difference which is estimated to be approximately +/- 0.5 degrees, without
This is not scientific!

In use and if we stay on the hardware and software aspect, we appreciate the
simple and quick measurement, reading atvoice

and overall the richness of the application's functions.
This can nevertheless sometimes appear a little complicated to handle but
remains very correct for beginners. The thermometer can also be used
to quickly check the temperature of a bath or a bottle of milk.

A mode is provided for measuring the temperature of objects other than the body
human. It must be started by continuously pressing the button for 3 seconds.

activated, an error alert is displayed.

Finally, there remains the question of price... Almost50 euros port

, there are less expensive and contactless solutions for

automatic logging can be attractive. it remains less expensive
than the recently released Withings version
which it directly displays the
temperature without the need for the iPhone on the other hand.
