iPhones soon to be compatible with Google Find My Device!

In a blog post published this week, Google details five new features of itsAssistant, equivalent of Siri on iOS. Among them, the first allows you to find your iPhone by making it ring like the Locate application available on the App Store. A first for the competition, which recalls the efforts undertaken by Apple and from which some third-party manufacturers now benefitespecially bicycles.

We do not know exactly when this improvement will be offered on the French market. We nevertheless tried to take advantage of it, scrupulously respecting the procedure indicated by Alphabet in its article, butour XR did not react. Below, find the different steps necessary to add your iPhone to Google Find My. We bet that it's only a matter of days before the service is activated for us.

Tutorial: find your iPhone with Google Find My Device

To configure the Find My Phone feature and save potential last-minute time trials, you need:

  • a speaker or display configured in the Google Home app”: these are probably the Nest ranges or equivalent (and perhaps the explanation behind the impossibility of launching the search from a smartphone)
  • l’app Google Home, download from the App Store
  • an iPhone connected to the mobile network or a Wi-Fi hotspot

Previously, it is necessary - with your iPhone or iPad since tablets are also eligible - toenable critical alertsof the Google Home app. To do this:

  1. Launch the Google Home app
  2. Click onSettings
  3. Open the menuNotifications
  4. ChooseGeneral notifications

At the very bottom of the page is the button to activate critical alerts.

A change that went unnoticed

Have you noticed? While until today the Google application was called Android Device Manager, here it isfamein Google Find My Device. A title particularly similar to that of Locate (Apple) in English…

In fact, the solution developed by Apple is calledFind Myin original version. Inspiration for Mountain View? Probably.
