This is an important agreement that has just been reached between some very big names in Tech. Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Adobe, NVIDiA, and even Sony have decided to create the Metaverse Standards Forum. The objective is clearly stated by the signatories: to promote interoperability and thus give developers the opportunity to work more simply between the different platforms.
“The metaverse will be an interconnected system”
Although very large companies are among the participants, there are notable absentees, notably Niantic, Roblox, Snapchat, and especially Apple. However, we know that the Cupertino company is most likely working on a VR headset. According tothe latest rumors, this product could be presented next January during a special keynote.
In detail, membership in this new group is free and the organization plans to focus on projects such as hackathons and open source tools in order to pursue its objectives.
Quoted byTechcrunchNick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, recently explained that just as there is no Microsoft Internet today, or Google Internet, there will be no Metaverse run by Meta. And the manager continued:“Like the internet, the metaverse will be an interconnected system that transcends national borders, so it will require a network of public and private norms, rules and standards to enable it to operate across jurisdictions.»
We will see later if this concept of metaverse takes hold and manages to interest the general public. For the moment, there are many skeptics, but some leaders like Mark Zuckerberg firmly believe in this idea.
