FaceTime is available on Android: how does it work?

Yesterday, Apple launched its WWDC 2021 with the now traditional Keynote. If the week's event is aimed at developers, this Monday meeting is aimed at the general public. On this occasion, we were able to discover the new features of its upcoming operating systems. On iOS 15, for example, we note a real improvement in the Find My system which allows you to locate lost objects.

FaceTime in the footsteps of Zoom?

The Cupertino company has also greatly updated FaceTime andwe spoke to you about it on Monday evening. Notable fact: the videoconferencing application is now accessible to Android and Windows users.

For the latter, however, there will be a real limitation. They will not have a FaceTime app dedicated to these platforms. To join a call, they will need to go through a link provided to them using the Chrome or Edge browser on their device. The latter will also need to support H.264 video encoding.

Despite this, the opening of FaceTime to all these new users is a real event and demonstrates Apple's ambition for this application. We know in particular that the success of Zoom comes largely from its ease of use and the fact that meetings can be accessed using a simple link and without any prior installation.

As a reminder, FaceTime is also enriched with new features such as the voice isolation function which improves sound quality, or the possibility of blurring your background thanks to portrait mode. Finally, the SharePlay functionality allows a group of people to watch or listen to the same thing at the same time and remotely.
