A few days ago, we relayed this information from analyst DuanRui, according to which the Cupertino company plans to no longer use leather in its protective iPhone cases. The idea is in fact to do without animal leather and to use other materials that are more respectful of the environment.
And indeed, although Apple has not yet confirmed this change,9to5macmanaged to cross-check this information from its sources. Rest assured, there would be no question for the apple brand of doing without the sale of this high value-added product.
Apple in the footsteps of car manufacturers
We can instead expect the Tech giant to continue offering high-end cases, with alternative versions to leather. Our colleagues cite the case of automobile manufacturers who have started this movement several years ago.
Indeed, Land Rover was a pioneer in this field and was able to find durable and quality substitutes. The same goes for Mercedes, which has been using Artico, a synthetic leather made from vinyl, in its cars for twenty years now.
Finally, Volvo will soon do the same and the company has promised to offer leather-free interiors. It will use Nordico, a textile produced using recycled plastic bottles, wood fragments, and recycled corks.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will finally decide to abandon this leather shell, and if so, what material will be used to replace it. It shouldn't be long before we find out more, andthe keynotewhich should be held in September will surely allow us to answer these questions.
