Free unveils the new Freebox Pop, a direct competitor to Apple TV?

During an outdoor conference Tuesday morning, Xavier Niel presented his company's new product intended for French homes. This is the Freebox Pop: delivered with a no-obligation package, it would reach a speed of5 Gbit per secondand adopts a circular and white design. The decoder, for its part, contrasts with a black tint which is reminiscent of the flop of the Nexus Player (at Google) and offers hundreds of applications including Netflix andAmazonPrime Video which also have their own button on the Bluetooth remote control associated with the box.

In terms of connectivity, users will of course have the choice between Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi, with a download speed capable of increasing to 700 Mbit/s. Pairing is also done quickly thanks to a QR code broadcast via a small screen. But probably the most impressive is the integration of arepeater, which will avoid having to invest in an additional accessory to cover more space. Clever.

The Freebox Pop player broadcasts in 4K HDR and relies on Dolby Audio to make cinema sessions even more immersive. The Chromecast being integrated, it will be easier to share content from your mobile, like the AirPlay functionality installed on theApple TV. On the other hand, we do not know if the eponymous platform which allows you to watchServantetCentral Parkwill be on the program, but nothing indicates it at the moment…

Finally, viewers will be entitled to a bouquet of 500 live channels, almost half of which will be free. As for the integrated voice assistant, which also has access from the remote control, it is theGoogle Assistantwhich as we have seen in previous tests remains more effective than Siri in the majority of scenarios.
