Leaks: Apple demands that informants provide their sources

Secrets around future iPhones are getting harder and harder to keep as their potential release date (in the fall) approaches. A situation that seriously displeases Apple executives, for whom keynotes are losing their luster. Therefore, the firm chose to take the lead with a single objective:silence those responsible. Which is starting to bear fruit, given that the Twitter account of the well-known L0vetodream now operates privately and thatthat of Mr. Whitewas deleted...

For Apple, however, this is not enough. The company has indeed just sent a new tough letter to interested parties. The journalists ofVicewere able to obtain it, and its vehemences are more than clear. The paper in fact assures that if its recipients do not reveal where the information they share comes from, then they will be heading to prison.

What power for justice?

In this case, we logically raise the question of what the individuals behind the crime actually risk. Which in reality changes drastically depending on their country, but also on the facts committed upstream. Indeed, the sanctions are not the same if it is simple technical data such as the battery capacity of the next iPhone which has been disclosed as for the theft of the device.

If the latter can certainly lead to a trial, French legislation is much more lax with regard to rumors, which are, for example, common in the world of the seventh art. Even more so when no question of competition comes into play. But be careful not to underestimate Cupertino, which has some serious tricks up its sleeve.

A lawsuit that can be very expensive

On both sides of the scale, no one really wants to have to deal with Fangda Partners. The Chinese firm, hired by Apple to launch the proceedings, has more than seven hundred lawyers among its collaborators. Many also consider him to be one of the most effective jurists in Asia, due to his success rate in court.

Its fees - set at the client's expense - are therefore obviously among the highest in the region; an expense that Luca Maestri would do well withoutat a time when transport costs for its suppliers are at their highest. The price to pay for a defense installed on top of the skyscrapers of Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
