Against the backdrop of a trade war: Huawei loses its Google Android license!

For several months now, the American and Chinese governments have been engaged in a trade war. The Trump administration recently banned the use of Huawei equipment in the United States, but things get worse for the world's second-largest smartphone maker.

As part of this ban, Google has just cut ties with Huawei. The latter haslost your Google Android license, as well asall associated servicessuch as access to the Play Store and Android apps. What does this mean for Huawei? First elements of response.

The decision by the American government to ban Huawei from the United States placed the Chinese manufacturer on the “Entity List”. This is a list of companies that cannot purchase technologies from American companies without the agreement of the American government.

Google explains that they had no choice, because of the Trump administration's executive order, and had to cut the cord with Huawei. The latterloses your Android license, as well as access to all associated services, like theGoogle native apps, but also and above allthe Play Store and Android apps.

According to a Google spokesperson,Google Play will continue to work on existing Huawei devices. This will probably not benot the case for future Huawei devices, prohibiting users from using native Google apps, such as the Play Store, and therefore from having access to Android apps.

With the loss of the Android license, Huawei will be restricted to using the Open Source version of Android, which does not include native Goolgle apps (Maps, Gmail, Google Play, etc.). Additionally, security updates are much less frequent on this open-source version.

This decision by the Trump administration also endangers an American company like Google, since Huawei, recently became ahead of Apple, the2nd smartphone manufacturer in the world.

This loss of license also causes problems for users of Huawei products outside the United States. This couldn't happen with an Apple product, as Apple develops its own OS for all of its machines.

Huawei has been preparing for such a blockage for several years and is reportedly secretly developing an in-house operating system. However, we do not know at what stage this is. In the meantime, Huawei is working on a legal response.
