New information has just come out concerning a potential former rival to the Apple Vision Pro.Meta, the parent company of Facebook, seems to haveput an end to audevelopment of its high-end headset, theMeta Quest Pro 2.
The Meta Quest Pro, released before Apple's Vision Pro, was one of thefirst devices to view space videos, like those made with the iPhone 15 Pro. But it seems that his successor is no longer relevant.
A cancellation that speaks volumes
According to a report from The Information, Mark Zuckerberg and his technical director (CTO) Andrew Bosworth have chosen to end the development of the Meta Quest Pro 2.The decision was made during a recent product review meeting.
Like the Apple Vision Pro, it seems that the Meta Quest Pro, despite its excellent technical specifications like its 5 infrared eye sensors, its Snapdragon XR2+ processor and its 90 Hz refresh rate, does not have met with the expected success. Its high price of more than $1,000 has probably dampened the enthusiasm of average consumers.
An uncertain future for VR at Meta?
Although the Meta Quest Pro 2 is apparently canceled, that doesn't mean the end of VR headsets at Meta. The standard Meta Quest line remains popular in France, witha more affordable price of around 550 euros for the 3, supplemented by a variety of pleasant applications and games.
