With iOS 13, cat and dog detection arrives in apps

Among the development tools made available to developers with iOS 13, there are new machine learning algorithms, which will allow apps to detect dogs and cats in images.

The Vision framework, which integrates these new algorithms, will allow developers to add functionalities to their iPhone and iPad apps, linked to the detection of our pets in photos.

This framework can also detect different objects, such as faces, facial features (eyes, nose, mouth), text, barcodes, or even the horizon in a photo.

For several years, Apple has already been using these machine learning algorithms in the Photos app to automatically detect dogs and cats in photos.

If you type dog or cat in the Photos search engine, the app will show you all the photos with a cat or dog. However, as can be seen in the search results, there are hiccups from time to time.

We hope that developers will succeed in using these algorithms to offer original features in their apps with iOS 13.
