New findings on Apple Object Tracker in iOS 13

Recently, we learned that the object tracker in preparation at Apple would benefit from augmented reality. New information was found on this subject in iOS 13, by our colleagues at MacRumors, and much more.

Virtual balloons to aid research in AR

To find an object associated with a tracker, the user should in fact be able to use augmented reality and search their environment for the tracker using a very specific clue: an inflatable balloon.

The object would display a virtual red or orange balloon above it, clearly indicating its position to the user. Additionally, the sensor could emit a sound to further help the user find the lost item.

Find my items

iOS 13 beta reveals more information about the tracker. The upcoming Find My app, merging the Find My iPhone and Find My Friends features, is expected to include an “Items” tab in addition to the “People” tab (for friends) and the “Devices” tab (for friends). for Apple devices).

This tab would logically list all the object trackers registered and associated with his account, with the possibility of seeing where they are located. This is also an example of images that should be displayed on the geolocation map of tracked objects in the “Items” tab. For example, there is that of a bicycle, to be used if you want to mark your bicycle. We also see the image of a suitcase and a key.

Obviously, Apple's item tracker could be used with any other item that you want to avoid losing. It should also be possible to tag these objects in the Find My app, for example with the name of the object or its category.

All round, all white, with battery

Finally, according to MacRumors, the Apple tracker should look like a very small white disk, to be attached to the desired object.

It would be powered by a classic button cell and therefore easy to change. The battery level would be indicated in the Find My app, with a warning issued via notification if a tracker is low on battery. A final notification of the object's location would even be sent automatically before the battery of the associated tracker runs out of power.

The next Apple conference will take placenext September 10. The Californian firm should announce new iPhones there. However, she has never talked about these Bluetooth object trackers. Difficult to say if she plans to present them during this back-to-school event. Still, in version 13 of iOS, as we see here, everything seems to be in place to make these object trackers work. Apple could, however, refrain from revealing them later in the year, wanting above all to shed light on its new smartphones in the coming weeks.
