iOS 14: finally, developers will still be able to track you

Remember: last June, during the Worldwide Developer Conference 2020,iPhones were full of new features, a good part of which linked to theconfidentiality. Among them, an alert offers users the possibility of limiting applications' access to their behavioral statistics. If you didn't know, this is what almost all publishers do and then show you advertisements whose content is designed based on your habits.

If the very principle of targeted ads based on your personality is debatable (but that's another debate), it nonetheless remains essential. Indeed, many companies base their revenue model on this strategy, particularly those that arefree. Thus, a studio offering games in Fremium will be remunerated via in-app purchases, by reselling your personal data or withretargetingon Facebook.

Not for four months

And precisely, Mark Zuckerberg's social network could well have played a decisive role in this affair which continues to divide even within the iOS community: in fact, its teams have already started serious stepsto try tocounter Apple. The firm then assured that it would not give in.

However, in a recent article fromThe Informationlater officially confirmed by Apple viaTechCrunch, we have just learned that the apple brand has finally reversed its decision:the final version of iOS 14which should arrive this fall will not be entitled to this tool. It takes the form of a notification that appears as soon as an app wants to follow you so that you authorize it or not, or of a setting in the Settings. We have already tested it in the versionbetaof the software, successfully. It is still available there at the moment.

For the general public, on the other hand, go “l’next year“. Objective: to leave “temps” so that developers prepare to face much smaller audiences with Facebook Ads and others.
