iOS 17.1 doesn't come alone, make way for iOS 15.8 and iOS 16.7.2

Last night, Apple released its first major update to iOS 17,iOS 17.1. Many new features are coming,as seen there, dontseveral bug and security fixes. Unfortunately, not all iPhones can take advantage of this. Specifically, all machines that cannot install iOS 17 or iPadOS 17.0 cannot logically upgrade to version 17.1.

Fortunately, Apple hasn't forgotten them. The Californian firm has been offering for a few hours, for everyone,iOS 15.8 et iOS 16.7.2.

iPhone 6s, 7 and 8 always updated

iOS 15.8 is therefore aimed at all iPhones which cannot install iOS 16. This is the case for example for iPhone SE, iPhone 6s or even iPhone 7. iOS 16.7.2 must be installed on machines which do not support iOS 17, we think of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in particular.

In both cases, it isthe provision of security fixes mainly and bugs.

Note that for iPad, the diagram is the same, iPadOS 15.8 is available for tablets not supporting iPadOS 16. iPadOS 16.7.2 must be installed on tablets not compatible with iPadOS 17.

Old Macs are not left out

And finally, for Macs, you must now also count onmacOS 12.7.1 and macOS 13.6.1, for all machines blocked respectively under macOS 12 (Monterey) and macOS 13 (Ventura). Likewise, this is not about new features, only security and general functioning improvements.

Still, it's always nice to see old machines updated like this. Remember on this subject that the iPhone 6s dates from 2015,it is enjoying its 8th year of updating, which is a fairly extraordinary support period on the smartphone market, you have to realize that.
