iOS 16.1: a new hidden option for privacy

We hadn't seen her. In the code of iOS 16.1, more precisely with the fourth beta version of Apple's mobile operating system, the developer added a few lines that allow you to defend yourself a little more against publishers tracking you. On the user side, this results in an additional section within the appSettings.

So, if you have installed the version in question, you may notice after accessing the settings of a particular app that they are now accompanied by the choice “Paste from Other Apps“. Why the capital letters? No idea. On the other hand, we know exactly what this new feature is for, which Cupertino was careful not to present during its last keynote.

To customize for each of your apps

This new setting, also to be tested withiOS 16.1 beta, allows you to authorize or not apps to paste content from the clipboard when it has been copied from another app. Depending on your answer, the choice will be saved in the option added in the Settings app and this is where you can change it at any time.

Apple imaginedthree possibilitiesto decide. The first is to simply prohibit pasting from third-party apps. The second, more permissive, consists of always asking for your agreement to do so. Finally, the last choice allows you to always let apps paste third-party text without even asking you for permission. In short, this is how iOS worked before copy/paste management like this arrived with iOS 16.

Some conditions

Be careful, however: history ofdo not spamuser, the prompt to limit access to the clipboard only appears in certain cases. An Apple developer describes this context as when the app is trying to access content “directly” but without going through the menuCollerwhich appears as a bubble after a long press or by selecting letters.More details right here on this subject.
