iOS 17.0.3 not only cools the iPhone 15 Pro

As we mentioned last night, iOS 17.0.3 is now available for all iPhones supporting iOS 17 (the list of affected machines). The biggest problem corrected by this update concerns the iPhone 15 Pro. These, with iOS 17, suffer, in certain cases, from unprecedented overheating. With iOS 17.0.3, as announced by Apple, the devices initially affected (this is probably only the 15 Pro models, the 15 Pro Max, 15 and 15 Plus would be spared)should no longer experience an extraordinary rise in temperature.

Why does it heat up?

Several factors underlie this overheating problem. On the one hand, the cooling inside the case would not be optimal. On the other hand, applications like Facebook, Instagram or Uber could consume too many resources in the background. This is the point that iOS 17.0.3 would resolve.

But the update is not limited to that. See the next paragraph.

iOS 17.0.3: what’s new?

Here are all the changes brought by iOS 17.0.3:

  • Software patch to prevent overheating on iPhone 15 Pro
  • Fixed a bug preventing machines running iOS 17 from initializing under the Apple Business Essentials device fleet program
  • Fixed a bug affecting the Calendar application when linked to one or more Exchange accounts and causing multiple event invitations to be sent unwantedly
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a device to freeze when connecting to a Wi-Fi network
  • Security patch for a flaw affecting the iOS kernel and accessible locally
  • Security patch affecting WebRTC and WebKit with a flaw that allowed arbitrary code execution

When iOS 17.0.3 arrives, others go

With the release of iOS 17.0.3, Apple is taking the opportunity tostop signing the following old updates: iOS 16.6.1, iOS 17 and iOS 17.0.1. This means that anyone who has updated their machine to a version later than one of these three versions can no longer return to it.

Finally, note that all the information in this article is also applicable for iPadOS 17.0.3.
