iOS 17: this new feature will delight HomePod users

DuringWWDC 2023, Apple has presented a lot of features for iOS 17, so much so that it is difficult to remember everything. One of them has gone relatively unnoticed, but it is nevertheless essential for all HomePod users.

For now, speaker regulars can listen to songs from Apple Music, as well as other compatible third-party services such as Deezer and Pandora. But this is not the case for a rival like Spotify, which dominates the music streaming market.

A very welcome addition

And once iOS 17 is installed, users will be able to ask Siri to play sounds on HomePod from applications installed on their iPhone or iPad, even if HomePod does not support it natively.

Concretely, iOS 17 will rely on the SiriKit API. And Apple explains the maneuver:“Once HomePod processes a request, a SiriKit intent is sent to iPhone, where Siri starts your app and streams content through AirPlays to the speaker.”.

This is therefore excellent news for HomePod users who will be able to listen to music, radio, audiobooks, or even podcasts directly on their speaker.

“Everything your app can do on iOS today will work on HomePod. For example, app users can request to listen to artists, albums, songs, music genres and hits », specifies the Cupertino company.
