iOS 18.2 allows children to report obscene content received

The first developer beta of iOS 18.2has just arrived and with it, some of the most anticipated features of Apple Intelligence. Image Playground, the image generator designed by Apple and the integration of ChatGPT with Siri are obviously among the notable new features of this update. Each new version of iOS also brings much more discreet, but particularly useful functions. This is the case of this option authorizing users, and more particularly children,to report obscene content received in iMessage and other Apple apps.

iOS 18.2 lets kids report obscene photos and videos they receive to Apple

Apple is strengthening its Communication Safety tool supposed to protect children from offensive content. The American manufacturer introduces a new function in iOS 18.2 allowingfor an iPhone to detect a sensitive image received in iMessage, AirDrop, FaceTime and Photos. If obscene content is detected, the device displays a warning message.

«If someone sends you images or videos containing nudity, you can report it. Apple will review the image or video as well as any other messages sent at the same time. In some cases, the police may be involved and view this report. Your name and other information will be included in this report, along with information about the person who sent you the photos», indicates this one.

The iPhone also offers the user the option to contact a parent or guardian. For the moment, this new feature integrated into the iOS 18.2 developer beta is only available in Australia. Not a big surprise, since a new regulation requires tech companies to increase monitoring of pedophile and terrorist content sent on cloud services and messaging applications in the country.

Apple plans to deploy this news more widely around the world, reports The Guardian. We imagine that the teams concerned will also handle requests from adults.Remember that automatic detection and blurring of contentwith nudity exists since iOS 17.2.The ability offered by iOS 18.2 to communicate obscene media to Apple, who can then contact the police, marks a real breakthrough.
