The latest iPhones are some of the best smartphones on the market for taking photos and videos. However, for those with special needs, there are third-party applications that allow you to use the iPhone's photo sensors in a different way. Recently, moreover, the camera manufacturer Leicalaunched its Leica Lux applicationwhich is inspired by its products.
Unfortunately, on iOS 17, these third-party camera apps do not benefit from the same integration with the operating system as the official app offered by Apple. But,on iOS 18, the Cupertino company will drop some ballast.Indeed, according to MacRumors' explanations, the new version of the OS, which arrives this fall, includes a new framework for the developers of these applications.
This framework, if leveraged by the developer, will allow a third-party camera app to be opened from the lock screen, like the default app, from the control center, or even by pressing the Action button.“Use the LockedCameraCapture framework to create an extension that allows users to launch your app's camera experience and quickly capture content when the device is locked. This extension makes your camera experience accessible to people from the Control Center, Lock Screen, or Action Button”, indicates Apple's technical documentation, to developers.
Apple going all-in on personalization?
What we can notice about the iOS 18 update is that Apple is becoming a little more flexible in allowing users to have a more personalized experience. One of the most notable changes is the possibility of arranging the icons on the home screen as you want (like on Android) instead of respecting the grid that the Cupertino company imposes on iOS 17. The new version of the operating system also allows you to customize other elements, such as the control center.
Otherwise, for photos, the Apple Intelligence series of features will also equip compatible iPhones with an equivalent of the Google Pixel magic eraser, which uses AI to remove distracting elements in the background of a photo.“[…] the new Clean Up tool can identify and remove attention-grabbing objects in the background of a photo without accidentally altering the subject”, said Apple, regarding this new feature.
