In September, Apple announced that it no longer wanted to sanction developers offering to bill their users outside of Apple Pay. And for good reason;Japan would otherwise have been able to take lasting action against the firm. Logically, apps are therefore starting to seriously think about ways to set up such a system that could potentially save them millions.
This is where the Paddle company is positioned. Already an expert in the subject of payments on the SAAS side, it has just unveiled a new module in its offering aimed specifically at publishers offering content for iPhone. The idea is quite simply to subcontract its sales page to the company, which is also responsible for collecting the amount of the purchases... obviously collecting a commission, but much lower than that of Apple.
Price and availability
Paddle has unfortunately not yet communicated a precise launch date. It is just specified that its service will arrive “soon”, but without adding which countries will be eligible. We still know that the program currently has mainly English-speaking customers, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom but also in Ireland, therefore relatively close to France.
The prices, for their part, are therefore more advantageous than those of the App Store:
- 10% commission for transactions less than $10
- 5% commission + $0.50 per transaction over $10
For example, an average studio which today makes fifteen in-app purchases of 4.99 euros per day must pay 673.65 euros in tax to Apple each month, for more than 2,200 euros in total. business. By subscribing to Paddle, on the other hand, the amount owed by the merchant increases to 224.55 euros. That’s a saving of almost 450 euros! An obviously significant sum for a startup, even more so for a freelancer.
How to register?
To test Paddle, simply enter your email address in the field provided for this purposeon this dedicated page. You will then be automatically contacted when the “integrated” purchasing platform is available. Note that - as one might assume - this is through the webapp, which could disappoint some. The Apple Pay option is also still visible, but perhaps this setting can be left to the discretion of each store.
