French iPhone 12s would not benefit from the fastest 5G

When we talk about5G, it is necessary to differentiate between two frequency bands which allow the network to be qualified with this attribute. The first,EHF(for extremely high frequency) ormmWavein English, makes it possible to effectively achieve ultra-fast speeds beyond GB per second and therefore to obtain without problem the same performance as the optical fiber in our homes. But it is difficult to pass between walls and inside buildings.

The second, which is locatedbelow 6 GHz, is distributed much more easily and therefore does not require multiplying antennas within the same city. On the other hand, it offers much lower speeds, even if still faster than the4G (LTE)current.

No 5G EHF outside the US?

According to an analyst report published by the Wedbush firm, generally well informed regarding the smartphone market, Apple would only market its iPhone 12 compatible with the two standards in Uncle Sam's country. Elsewhere, only modems less powerful would be included in the new mobiles expected for the month of September, oroctoberaccording to this survey.Other rumors even announce that the launches of each version would be separate.

In France, however, we should not make a difference among the general public: 4G is already more powerful than certain boxes, and the5G access points are not yet deployed anyway. Only certain professionals, who expect this additional generation, could see this as a disadvantage.
