It was a shock announcement for all Apple fans, and especially for those who use theiPhone 12. On September 12, while the firm presented its new iPhone 15, the ANFR (national frequency agency) announced a temporary ban on the marketing of the iPhone 12, a model launched in 2020. The cause was a wave problem that 'Apple must correct to lift this ban and avoid a recall of iPhone 12s in use. The good news is that an update is coming that will bring this model into compliance with ANFR requirements.
As a reminder, the ANFR hasDAS limit exceedance detected(specific absorption rate) on the iPhone 12. Apple, for its part, claims that its models meet accepted standards for energy transmission. However, if the iPhone 12 was pinned, it would be due to the testing protocol used by the ANFR. According to Apple, this protocol does not take into account a feature of the iPhone which allows a slight increase in transmission power, when the smartphone is moved away from the body (for example, if it is placed on a table).
Apple therefore ensures that the iPhone 12 can be used safely, but it will still update this model in order to comply with ANFR requirements.“iOS 17.1 includes an update for the iPhone 12 of users in France to adapt to this specific testing protocol which requires reduced power when the device is not in contact with the body and placed on a static surface”, indicates the Cupertino company.
An update already tested in beta
As we mentionedin a previous article,Apple has just released a new beta version of iOS 17.1. And if it includes some new features which will be accessible around the world, for France, it will also contain a modification which should put an end to the ban on the iPhone 12.
More precisely, Apple explains that after this update, the iPhone 12 will no longer increase the transmission power when the device is placed on a surface, such as a table, and away from the user's body. The consequence of this change is that the iPhone 12 could have “slightly lower” cellular performance if it is placed away from the body and placed on a static surface, when network coverage is poor. But Apple reassures that this difference should not be noticed by most users.
At the moment, it is not known when the iOS 17.1 update will be available in stable version. But she could arrive either at the end of October or in November. In any case, this update is eagerly awaited by reconditioned players, such as Back Market. Indeed, although it is an old model, the iPhone 12 is still part ofof the most popular modelson these platforms.
