The iPhone 14 not found for less than a thousand euros?

Whilethe first rumors to this effect could already have been shared around ten days earlier, here isNikkei Asiareports a price hike for upcoming iPhones. The person responsible? TSMC, company responsible for manufacturing Apple mobile processors on a large scale. The company has also experienced strong growth in recent months, now ranking it eighth among the most highly valued companies on the planet. Cupertino remaining first, of course.

Several reasons seem to explain this decision. The first concerns the global chip shortage experienced since the end of 2020, which Hsinchu would take advantage of to revise its pricing under the nose of the competition. The second is quite simply the hegemony of the founder trusted by big names in the field such as Qualcomm (Android) or Nvidia (computers).

An iPhone 13 just in time

According toNikkei, these changes should however only have a lasting impact on iOS consumers in 2022. Indeed, the iPhone 13 is probably only a few days away from its official release, so much so that most of its components have been secured by the manufacturer for many weeks now. This strategy is not its first attempt, the media already reporting it during the assembly of the first series.

What's more, the value proposition of the September products promises to be significantly similar to that of the technical sheets currently available in stores. Next year, on the other hand, could change the situation with the arrival of additional major technologies such asengraving with a precision of three nanometers precisely for the proprietary CPU.

What price for the iPhone 14?

Taking into account this factor combined with inflation and recent court decisions condemning Apple to heavy fines in several countries, everything suggests that the 2022 iPhones will be the most expensive ever marketed. What's more, although currently the iPhone 12 mini - the most affordable in the collection - only costs 809 euros, rumors in the corridors have announced the abandonment of this diagonal in a short time.

With only 91 euros more, or almost 10% of the basic amount, the “classic” iPhone would therefore reach the symbolic price of a thousand euros in France. Only the internalization strategy operated by Apple seems to be able to come to the rescue of future customers, having already made it possible to seriously reduce the amount spent to afford a Mac mini thanks to the arrival of the M1.
