iPhone 17 Air: what to expect from the camera?

While the iPhone 16 has been available for over two months now, know that Apple on theiPhone 17 series for a while now. On the program, a new ultra-thin model which could well shake up the codes of the Apple brand: the iPhone 17 Air.

This iPhone 17 Air, whose name has yet to be confirmed, would mark a turning point in the design of Apple smartphones. In particular, it would bethinner than iPhone 6. Since the iPhone 11, aesthetic changes have remained minor from one generation to the next. But this time, the Cupertino company seems to want to push finesse to the extreme, even if it means making a few compromises.

5x optical zoom: a privilege reserved for the Pro?

In fact, the Korean site The Elec has just taught us a little more about one of these compromises. According to their sources, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air would bedeprived of the telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. A functionality which would once again remain the prerogative of the Pro models, namely the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

This choice is hardly surprising given the extreme finesse expected for the iPhone 17 Air. The tetraprism camera system which allows this 5x optical zoom requires a certain thickness. Apple must therefore show ingenuity to offer you a high-performance camera in such a thin chassis.

This extreme finesse would be made possible thanks to the use of anew OLED display technology with touch control and display circuit integration (TDDI). By merging the touchscreen and display layers into one, TDDI would significantly reduce the thickness of the screen and therefore that of the iPhone you will soon hold in your hands.A technology that Apple already masters, since she uses it on the latest ultra-thin iPad Pro M4.

A half-hearted technical sheet?

Besides the camera, other specifications of the iPhone 17 Air raise questions. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this model would include astandard A19 chip, a single 48-megapixel rear photo sensor, and an in-house 5G modem.

So many choices that could put off photography enthusiasts and demanding users. But the iPhone 17 Air would also have its advantages, such as alarge 6.6 inch screen, an ultra-thin design (6 mm thick according to the latest rumors), and perhaps even a more affordable price.

Also to follow, Samsung's Galaxy S25 Slim, which would directly compete with this iPhone 17 Air from 2025:the race for finesse has only just begun!
