During an interview withDaring Fireball, an Apple executive discussed the reason why only two mobiles from his brand are currently announced as compatible with Apple Intelligence. These are the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. For John Giannandrea, older devices would not be fast enough to cope with users' AI requests.
John Gruber, who asked the questions during the interview, even went so far as to mention without hesitation a potential hidden technique from Apple to sell new iPhones. But Greg Joswiak, in charge of marketing at the Apple firm, quickly brushed aside this assertion. Justifying himself, he mentions in particular theApple Intelligence compatibility with older iPad and Mac models. Indeed, computers equipped with the M1 chip are indeed entitled to Apple Intelligence, although these devices were released several years ago now, followed by versions equipped with processors from the M3 collection.
Which devices are currently compatible with Apple Intelligence?
Thelist of devices compatible with Apple Intelligencewas communicated during the Worldwide Developer Conference. On the tablet side, we find in particular the iPad Pro released in 2021 or later, as well as the iPad Air released in 2022 or later.
For Macs, all you need is an Apple silicon chip to be integrated under the hood and that's it. This allows the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro announced last year to be eligible for new features, including the ability to generate personalized images using artificial intelligence.
New devices in the loop?
You will have understood it; Apple Watches are therefore not compatible with Apple Intelligence. Understandable, given that these devices are generally much less efficient than high-end tablets or laptops.
The Apple Vision Pro, on the other hand, are also equipped with an Apple silicon chip with the M2, and the R1 for augmented reality. We therefore believe that a future update of the operating system, or even another mixed reality headset, could one day be entitled to Apple Intelligence. But that’s just our own hypothesis, for the moment…
