According to a well-informed Apple specialist, the Apple firm couldbury iTunes in the future on macOS. She is already planning tocreate multiple appsfor music, podcasts and books. For series and films, a TV app is already planned on macOS. The latter would therefore only be the first stone of this building of clouds of media apps, which would see iTunes reduced to its simplest device, that of an update and backup tool for your iPhone, or even disappear completely.
The revelation comes from iOS developer Steve Troughton-Smith, who has often hit the nail on the head in the past. Based on his confidential sources, he claims that Apple is currently planning thedevelopment of 3 new macOS appsin addition to thenew TV app. There would therefore be an app dedicated to music and Apple Music, an app dedicated to podcasts, for a media gaining more and more importance, and an app dedicated to books, probably including the Apple News+ subscription.
iTunes software already lost many features related to the iOS App Store in 2017, so this year we might see itlet other features slip away.
Ultimately, if these predictions prove accurate, Apple would keep iTunes onlyfor iOS device backup and mobile system updates. But also not sure that this is enough to justify its maintenance. The Californian company could thenreturn to oblivion.
We should know more about this at the next Apple WWDC conference, from June 3 to 7.
