Niantic, thanks in particular to the augmented reality aspect of the game, and
the company has decided to continue to exploit this very trendy vein for a
new project.
In an interview with the Reuters newspaper, John Hanke, the boss of
Niantic announced that they are working on a project ofmap in
augmented reality using data from Pokémon GO players.
More precisely, this map of the planet in augmented reality
will be carried out incollecting the data captured by the camera of the
gamer smartphones.
“We want players to build the game board on which they
want to play” says Niantic. However, the company does not specify how
this augmented reality map would be integrated into their various games.
John Hanke, however, mentioned that third-party developers could
obtain a license to use this map in augmented reality, which
would represent a new source of revenue for Niantic.
At the same time in the same field, Google recently announcednews
augmented reality featuresfor its cartography service,
Google Maps, which should arrive in the coming months for its apps
mobiles.
