The Apple Car could have worked with 4 M2 Ultra

Apple ended its “Titan” project a few days ago. After a decade of development and billions of dollars invested, the program finally ended without the electric and autonomous car that was at its heart seeing the light of day. This admission of helplessnesswas made by Apple after 10 years, when the Apple brand needed additional human and financial resources to work on artificial intelligence in particular.

Since the announcement of the death of this project, several pieces of information have come to the surface and we learn a little more every day about what the Apple Car could have been.Yesterday we shared with youdrawings of a possible Apple Car inspired by the Volkswagen “Combi” of the 70s.

Today, the technical characteristics of the car have appeared on the web. According to information from Mark Gurman, the central chip of the autonomous car would have been“similar to 4 M2 Ultra”, the most powerful chips available today in Apple's ecosystem.

Still according to Gurman, this section of the Apple Car had progressed a lot and the project was very well developed from a software point of view. Gurman believes that this work will not be useless for Apple, despitethe end of the “Titan” project. Indeed, the engineers who developed this new chip are still Apple employees and as such their discoveries could help the Cupertino company in other areas.

Apple Car, a lack of partner?

No one knows exactly why the Apple Car project ended. Many analysts mention the lack of enthusiasm of the company's thinking heads, started by Tim Cook. Others suggest that Apple desperately needed a skilled manufacturer to develop this car.

Extensive negotiations took place a few years agowith the Korean group Hyundaibut no agreement was reached between the two parties. Since then, Apple has reportedly discussed, also without success, with German manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche. Ford, McLaren and Tesla were also reportedly approached by Apple to build the Apple Car but all refused to serve as a “subcontractor” to the Apple brand.
