Apple has just released its Vision Pro. As soon as it arrived on the market, the Apple brand's mixed reality headset was dismantled by the iFixit teams. In a YouTube video explaining the different steps needed to tear Apple's headset apart, iFixit calls it a real “nightmare” even for an Apple product.
It is now common knowledge that the devices sold by Apple are difficult to disassemble, to say the least. Screws and other glue and solder points make the phone, tablet or computer completely waterproof, impossible to open without the right tools, and a lot of theoretical knowledge.
But the iFixit teams were surprised by the level of difficulty in the designof Vision Pro. Apple's headset far exceeds all other devices sold by the Apple brand. According to iFixit, disassembling the device is a “crazy process.”
iFixit has extensive experience in disassembling technology products, including devices sold by Apple. If the site itself says that the Vision Pro is a real pain to take apart, we can trust it on this point.
It would also be quite logical to think that the Vision Pro is very difficult to disassemble. Apple is having all the problems in the world producing its device in large quantities. Increased complexity in the design could slow down production of the Vision Pro, especially when we know that producing the screen already requires a lot of effort from Apple's subcontractors.
An almost impossible repair
This great complexity in the design of the Vision Pro also explains the repair prices offered by Apple on its website. You must therefore be able to pay hundreds of dollars to simply change the screen of the device. It also costs more than $2,000 for repairs to parts inside the Vision Pro.
People who buy the headset can then turn to Apple's insurance service,Care+. The latter is sold for $499 by the Apple brand but it allows you to have a discount of $500 on changing the front screen and more than 2000 dollars on internal repairs.
This insurance solution should really be considered by future owners of the Vision Pro, starting with buyers who are used to having their device repaired. Ultimately the only good point regarding Apple's mixed reality headset in the long term concernsthe battery. As the latter is located outside the helmet, it is very easy to change it.
