MacBook Pro OLED could wait for the M5 chip

According to the research firm Omdia, the MacBook Pro could only be eligible for OLED in 2026. This is one of the conclusions that emerges from its latest survey, which it published a few days ago on the web . The overall conclusion is that OLED for laptop market is expected to experiencegrowth of at least 37% by 2031.

COVID-19 would have slowed down OLED

According to the analysis, the COVID-19 pandemic is not unrelated to the weak growth of OLED. Omdia, however, asserts that:

With the emergence of AI-enabled PCs and advancements in AI performance, mobile PC manufacturers are gearing up to introduce new products.

To examine this type of trend, the firm scrutinized market data, particularly those concerning Apple. Omdia believes that the introduction of OLED on the iPad Pro is expected to triple tablet sales for Apple in 2024, compared to 2023. Analysts further predict that Apple will equip the next iPad Air and mini with an OLED display , and this even before MacBooks were entitled to it.

The MacBook Pro OLED, not before 2026?

The lead analyst from Omdia's Display research department says about the MacBook Pro OLED:

Apple is very likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026. This move could trigger a significant increase in demand for OLED in the laptop market, potentially reaching over $1,000,000. 60 million units by 2031.

This estimate is similar to that which was made last year, concerningthe introduction of OLED in the MacBook Pro. On forums and social networks, many Internet users are debating Apple's delay in OLED. Some even believe that it is voluntary, while others remain more measured.

The first say that Apple wants to save money, until the production costs of OLED displays become more attractive. Whileothers think the delay is due to Apple standards, and that as with folding screens, OLED technology still has some weaknesses. We remember in particular theburn-in phenomenon which had affected the iPhone 15.

Regardless, here's a possible roadmap for OLED monitors on different Apple devices:
