The famous developer Ridley Testut has just announced the arrival of the AltStore, a competing version of the App Store. Starting today, it can be installed on all European iPhones that support iOS 17.4 or later. To install this competing application store, simply go to the AltStore website to start the download.
Regarding the available applications, Ridley Testut is currently the only developer to have access to itsAltStore. He therefore offers his own applications, including the delta emulator that he himself developed and which has made him known throughout the world. Another application, called “Clip” is also present in the AltStore. This is a clipboard that can run in the background on the iPhone.
The AltStore: the project of a lifetime
In his own words, the creation of the AltStore represents one of his “dreams”, he who began by creating emulators on iPhone around ten years ago. For the moment the catalog of this application store is very limited, but it should open in the coming weeks.
Ridley Testut promised that the AltStore would be open to everyone, he just asked for a few weeks to verify that everything is working correctly in his store before opening it to other developers. As far as Apple is concerned, the apple brand can no longer legally prevent the creation of such a store.
The Cupertino company, however, remains close to these advances, requiring a payment of 50 cents per download of applications beyond the first million installations. It is this tax, named CTF by Apple, who explains that Ridley Testut has set up a donation system at the entrance to the AltStore. The first payment is 1 euro.
