The AltStore wants to offer a functionality banned by Apple

Since the beginning of March, the DMA has come into force in Europe. This piece of legislation must allowbetter competition against GAFAM. In the case of Apple, the Apple brand will have to let third-party companies compete with the App Store.

If the Cupertino company has already sounded the alarm about the risks linked tosecurity of individual data, Europe for its part assures that this opening should offer more choice to the consumer.

It is with this in mind thatla solution AltStoreis emerging. If the application is not yet available, it should be available in the coming weeks. The people behind the project have just announced that the AltStore will allow software to integrate support viaPatreon.

A feature banned by Apple

Until today, this option was impossible to deploy on the App Store, with Apple outright banning this practice. According to the lead developer of this project, Riley Testut,l’AltStorewill thus be able to count on the financial support of certain users, in addition to traditional sources of income.

For now, the AltStore should only contain two applications, designed by Testut, the latter nevertheless hopes that his store will fill up quickly. On social media, he explains that his Patreon integration will be available to all developers. A way to bypass Apple's monthly subscription system, without paying additional commissions.

Apple does not want to give in

Although the arrival of these alternative stores should be a hard blow for Apple, the Cupertino company does not intend to stand by and do nothing. She has already announced the arrival of a financing system.

It will thus charge 50 euro cents for each download of “popular” applications (those which exceed one million installations).

For its part, Testut is optimistic and assures that its App Store competitor will be able to operate despite these taxes. In a presentation video published on the social network Threads, he claims that the AltStore is as easy to use as the App Store, but with fewer costs.
