Late last year, Applereleased its new Mac Pro and its new Pro Display XDR screen. Both were announced several months earlier, during the WWDC conference in June 2019 precisely. Apple then used big words by specifying that the pair of the two would be able to constitute the ultimate machine for professionals, particularly those working in image.
And yet, while the computermost expensive configurationdisplays components (and a price) that do not havenothing to be ashamed of compared to competing professional workstations, for the screen, according to YouTuber Vincent Teoh, Apple would be far from the “Pro” target.
In his video, the specialist in screens and televisions from theHDTVTest YouTube channelcompares Apple's Pro Display to a very high-end monitor, the Sony HX310. While the first is sold for 5,499 euros, the second costs no less than… 37,000 euros, or more than 6 times more.
So of course, the comparison may seem unfair, given the difference in price positioning between the two screens. But Vincent Teoh makes it clear: this is only a matter of verifying what Apple insisted on during the presentation of its new screen, the fact that the latter is, in the words of the Californian,“the best screen for professionals”.
Except that in reality, and as the tests show in this YouTube video, the Pro Display XDR is largely in difficulty compared to its competitor, on several points, color precision and accuracy of contrasts in particular. The tester concludes that the Apple screen can be used for professional content consultation work, butwould not be recommended for visual creation.
The Cupertino company has obviously gone a bit too far with superlatives for its Pro Display XDR?
