LG invests $2.8 billion in future iPhone screens

LG Display to invest $2.81 billionin its set of OLED screens for iPhone and iPad, by 2024.

Thanks to Apple's success during 2020, both on iPhones and iPads, LG Display saw its screen order book multiply fivefold in the space of a year. This sudden increase is explained by a performance well above average on the part of Apple, and part of the production, initially entrusted to Samsung which left in the hands of LG.

The year 2020 was indeed marked by the pandemic, this entire year entrusted millions of people, forced to telework and use computer equipment for some new ones. Working daily with their computer or tablet has made many people want to change models or equip themselves for the first time. This phenomenon allowed Apple to sell a record number of iPads during the second and third quarters of 2020.

The Chinese site IT Home reports thatLG will invest $2.81 billion with the aim of doubling its production of small and medium-sized OLED panels by 2024. If LG should therefore move towards the production of OLED screens for the Apple brand's phones and tablets, the latter does not forget its supplier and competitor Samsung, which has long worked on iPhone screens.

The South Korean telephone giant should indeed take charge of the production of larger OLED panels, at least if we are to believe the information reported by IT Home on this subject. One of its factories could thus be converted to produce screens specifically for MacBook Pro and Air.

One thing is certain, Apple continues to trust its two companies in the construction of its screens.
