This iPhone and iPad feature is coming to Mac

The apple company offers a guarantee on all new products. This lasts 24 months and works “free from defects in material and workmanship, if used in accordance with Apple's published guidelines". In the event that a device has been impregnated with water or humidity, and if this introduction of water has not been caused by an anomaly resulting from a manufacturing defect, then the warranty does not apply.

Thus, to avoid having to repair breakages linked to humidity which are not their responsibility, the Cupertino firmdeveloped different methods. The latest has just seen the light of day on the occasion of themacOS Sonoma 14.1 update.

A new daemon on Mac to detect water

When Apple rolled out this new version of macOS Sonoma, it did not announce any changes impacting usage, as we have notifiedat the end of our article on iOS 17.1. However, it turns out that the latter seems to have made numerous fixes, as shown in the note that Apple published about it on its site. In addition to the fixes, Cupertino developers have reportedly addeda new “daemon» to the operating system. It was seen in the code by our colleagues at9to5Mac.

As a reminder, a daemon designatesa type of computer program that runs in the background, and this, without the direct control of the user. The new daemon introduced in macOS Sonoma 14.1 is a “Liquid Detection and Corrosion Mitigation Daemon". iPhones as well as iPadsalready have similar functionality, which we have all already read at least once. This is because on the latter, they display a message indicating that the connector is wet.

In this case, the daemonis not intended to warn usersthat their devices are wet.It is used here rather to inform technicianswhether or not liquid has been introduced into the device, and thus know if the warranty covers the defective Mac.
