WhilemacOS Sonoma is already having problems with certain USB hubs, it turns out that users of this version are now explaining that it is their printers that no longer work as expected. Testimonies to this effect were collected not only on the social network Reddit but also on the forums dedicated to helping users of the Apple site. On X (new name of Twitter), we also find similar comments.
The developer is likely already aware of this technical issue, so it is recommended to wait until a fix is deployed. Otherwise, be aware that as a precaution, as is often the case, some also advise not to update your Mac to macOS Sonoma 14.4, as this edition potentially presents other problems.
How to downgrade version?
Another potential solution is to “downgrade” the version of macOS Sonoma installed on your computer. Be aware, however, that to go back like this, you must erase your Mac and its contents in their entirety. It is therefore necessary to make a complete backup of your personal data in advance. You can do this with the Time Machine app, installed natively on all Macs by Apple. Otherwise, tools likePersonal Backup 10.9(published by Intego) can also do the trick.
Also note that depending on the software you have purchased, downgrading the version could deactivate their license. It is therefore advisable to carefully check the compatibility of your different apps before carrying out this operation.
Safety at stake
Remember, moreover, that downgrading the version will also remove from your Mac the security updates that are delivered with macOS Sonoma 14.4 by Apple.
We don't yet know when macOS Sonoma 14.5 will be released, but this version could also fix the bug. Waiting can therefore also serve as a solution, especially since we have not been able to identify an alternative for the moment.
- macOS Sonoma 14.4 causes printers to experience technical issues
- Apple has not yet released a patch yet
- You can downgrade the version of macOS to avoid the bug, but find out the procedure before doing so.
