According to a still confidential internal Apple memo, there would be a tool to trigger the update of AirPods Pro on demand (butnot the third generation AirPodswhich have just been released). This information comes to us from the no less serious magazineMacRumors, which regularly obtains exclusives of this type probably thanks to contacts working directly with the mobile manufacturer.
Until now, however, it was impossible to manually install a version of the AirPods operating system, all models combined. In fact, the only solution to download a new version is simply to leave the headphones connected to your iPhone and in their charging case. But this would therefore be about to change, whilea latest edition of the OS has just been released.
Only in store
However, it seems that this famous “tool” – of which no image has reached us yet – is in fact reserved for Apple Store employees. They would then be able, from the start of next week, to help out potential customers whose AirPods Pro refuse to update automatically. These are Apple's most expensive wireless headphones if we exclude the AirPods Max headphones.
Thanks to this new device from Apple, technicians could also choose to update only one of the two AirPods Pro entrusted to them. It happens that replacement AirPods (received after losing one for example) do not always run the same version of the OS as that of the buyer. Other times, it is a technical incident that blocks the installation.
Apple is launching an AirPods Firmware Updater tool! After all these years of waiting its coming!
There's a catch though.
It's only available to Apple Technicians. It's also only intended for people who use AirPods with non-Apple stuff, or AirPods that got mismatched firmware.

For Android users too
According toMacRumorsStill, this tool intended for Apple employees could also make it possible to unblock problematic situations involving AirPods Pro used with equipment from other brands. It is therefore not uncommon to see certain users pair their duo with an Android smartphone, which therefore blocks their future update.
Have you also been the victim of a software bug on your AirPods Pro in the past? If so, what was Apple's response to resolve it?
