The bone of contention: Microsoft omits crucial details

The Verge reports that Microsoft is talking about Apple. The company founded by Bill Gates says the next Windows chip will do better than Apple's M3. Microsoft is preparing topresent new computers boosted by artificial intelligence on May 20.The latter will benefit from the Snapdragon X Elite chip, which is developed by Qualcomm.

Microsoft is convinced

As The Verge reports:

Sources close to Microsoft's plans tell The Verge that Microsoft is confident that a series of new Windows laptops powered by an Arm processorwill beat Apple's M3-equipped MacBook Air, both in terms of CPU performance and AI-accelerated tasks.

These claims are reminiscent of those made by Qualcomm in December, which presented its Oryon Snapdragon21% faster than Apple M3.

However, the test compareda version of the M3 optimized for energy saving, and not an M3 Pro or Max.

Once again here, Microsoft is based, according to The Verge, on the MacBook Air, which certainly offers a powerful, but limited, M3 instead of a MacBook Pro. It would be more revealing to compare the chips under the same conditions, taking into account power consumption.

Competitor Apple also claims that its PCs will benefit from a“faster application emulation than Rosetta 2”from Apple. Rosetta 2 makes software designed for 64-bit Intel processors compatible with ARM architecture.

AI everywhere

Where Microsoft can stand out, however, is with OpenAI's AI, which is now an integral part of its ecosystem. Microsoft Copilot is indeedintegrated into many toolsof the firm now. It also seems that this is only the beginning, and that the company's future products will offer new native features. Among them,AI Explorer, which records everything that happens on the computer, to allow users to remember what they were previously working on.

Apple should also announce new AI features in June. The Apple firm hesitated on this subject betweena partnership with OpenAIor Google, but we will know moreduring the WWDC 2024 conference.
