Netflix explodes the price of its subscriptions in France

It was in the pipelinefor several weeks, it’s now official. Netflix has just revised upwards the price of its various subscriptions in France. The firm, world leader in the streaming platform market, has just announced a sharp increase in its prices in many countries.

If the United States and the United Kingdom are primarily concerned, this is also the case for France with a price increase of more than 20% depending on offers. The biggest development on the side ofNetflixconcerns the “Essential” offer allowing you to connect to the red N with two different screens. This offer was until now billed at €8.99, but the price has been revised and now exceeds €10. A nice change of 22% which may not please many people.

For its part, the “premium” formula is not spared. Prices are increasing by 11%, also increasing by two euros every month. Instead of €17.99,you now have to pay €19.99to benefit from the best possible service. Netflix justifies this new price increase by a “significant addition of value” within the platform. A polite way of saying that the original content produced by the company is expensive, and that it must be made profitable.

Netflix, an increasingly expensive service

If you find that France is hard hit by these price increases at Netflix, you can always reassure yourself by comparing the situation in other countries. With this new price increase, effective from the coming November, the United States exceeds the symbolic mark of 20 dollars per month for the “premium” offer. On the other side of the channel, you have to pay £17.99 to subscribe to this service, or €20.70.

Despite a new price increase which risks causing subscribers to react, Netflix's strategy over the last few months seems to be bearing fruit. In fact, the company has gained many subscribers with the end of sharing accounts and passwords. It will be interesting to follow Netflix's figures in the coming months to see if this price increase has an impact on the attractiveness of the red N.
