Case maker says he knows the names of all iPhone 12 models

A recent publication from iPhoneSoft reveals that it was able to get its hands on a document from the iPhone protection manufacturer ESR. This paper would indicate all the names of the next iPhones that Apple would introduce within a few weeks. Here is what it says:

  • iPhone 12 mini: 5.4 inches screen diagonal
  • iPhone 12: 6.1 inches screen diagonal
  • iPhone 12 Pro: 6.1 inches screen diagonal
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max: 6.7 inches screen diagonal

This is not new information. Several previous rumors were already counting on a range of iPhone 12 with 4 models, with these names. But while the 6.1 and 6.7 inch models had rather easily found their hypothetical respective name, for the smaller 5.4 inch model, there was still a lot of doubt.

This new ESR information would therefore support the designation ofiPhone 12 mini.

Be careful though, it is possible that the case manufacturer based itself on the same sources that everyone has easy access to on the internet. The fact that he displays iPhone 12 mini does not necessarily mean that he knows more than ordinary mortals.

But it is true that this name may seem quite logical, given that the term “mini” is already used by Apple for the iPad. On the other hand, in my humble opinion, “iPhone 12 mini” is not really a seller, because a smartphone remains in the majority of cases a rather small object, while for tablets, the term works better.

Still, with Apple and the names, surprises are frequent. To realize this, you just need to realize that there is no iPhone 9 or even 7s and 8s, and that after the iPhone “iPhone XS”. So, let's not be sure of anything at this stage about the name of the smallest of the next iPhones.

All the answers will perhaps be delivered next Tuesday, during the next Apple Keynoteto follow from 7 p.m. here.

“iPhone 12 mini”, do you like the name?
